Are you a woman or girl with a passion for programming and web development? Consider applying for the Django girls workshop, a one-day workshop to help women and girls learn how to program and eventually create websites. The event will take place on 19th April, 2019 at Mashinani hub in Nyamira county located behind huduma center.
This workshop is a part of bigger initiative: Django Girls, which is a global non-profit organization and events are organized by volunteers in different places around the world.
The technology sector is one of the fastest growing industries globally, but experiencing skills gap. The sector holds enormous opportunities for women and girls with the requisite skills. But stereotypes and discrimination continue to deprive girls of the chance to excel in this field. More and more initiatives are coming up to encourage women and girls to venture into this field and the Django Girls workshops are helping to bridge that gap.
Workshops are free of charge and for those who cannot afford going to Nyamira but are very motivated to learn and share knowledge with others, some funds have been set aside to help with your travel costs and accommodation.
As a participant, you don’t need to know any technical stuff – the workshop has also been packaged for people who are new to programming.
As a workshop attendee you will:
- Attend a one-day Django workshop during which you will create your first website
- Get a chance to meet and network with amazing women doing great things in tech
- Have meals and refreshments provided, thanks to the wonderful sponsors
